What can you do from Tamarindo besides the beach?
Tamarindo is a great base — the surf, the restaurants, the energy. But it’s also the busiest tourist town on this coast, which means the tours sold along the main street are the same ones sold to everyone else, by people who book them rather than run them.
What most visitors never realize is how close the real country is. The estuary behind Playa Grande holds crocodiles, herons and howler monkeys. An hour and a half east, the Tempisque River carries one of Central America’s great bird concentrations. And the rainforest and the volcano are a comfortable day trip. That’s the Costa Rica you came for, and from Tamarindo it’s within reach.
A bit of local color while you’re here: Tamarindo is the most Americanized town on the coast — so much so that locals nickname it ‘Tamagringo,’ with a grin. It even has its own little airstrip, which is why many guests hop over on a domestic flight. It’s a fun, easy place to base a week. The one honest catch is distance: Tamarindo sits farther from the parks and volcanoes than the northern beaches, so we start early (usually 7:30 a.m., 6:00 for the long days) and plan the drive so it counts. The payoff is range — from Tamarindo the mangrove canoe (about 20 minutes out), Palo Verde, the ATV and buggy trails, Buena Vista, Miravalles and the Rainforest combo are all on the table.

Our Pickup Area
Tamarindo and Playa Grande sit on the southern half of our northern Pacific pickup corridor, which runs from the Papagayo Peninsula down to Hacienda Pinilla. Wherever you’d like to go, we start at your door.
Book three tours and your arrival transfer is on us
If you book three tours with us, we collect you at the airport when you land — that transfer is included, not discounted. Book four and we take you back for your departure flight as well.
Two conditions, and we would rather say them plainly than have you discover them later. The group has to be four people or more. And the group that rides in from the airport is the group that does the tours: if eight of you arrive in the van, the tours are for eight, not for four of the eight.
