A Calm River Float Through the Dry Gallery Forest, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
The Corobicí and Tenorio rivers run slow and green through Guanacaste's dry-gallery forest, shaded by giant kapok and fig trees — and from the raft, the whole world slows with them. There are no rapids to fight and nothing to paddle: your guide rows while you sit back and watch the banks come alive. It's one of the best stretches of river for birding in the region — aracaris, kingfishers, trogons, motmots, herons and the towering jabiru stork all work the water's edge — while howler and white-faced monkeys move through the canopy and crocodiles, iguanas, otters and coatis sun themselves below. Calm enough for kids and grandparents (it's a class I–II float, not a whitewater tour), rich enough that serious birders bring two lenses. We close the morning back at the starting point with a typical Costa Rican lunch — and since it sits just 20 minutes from Llanos de Cortés, it pairs into an easy half-day.

If you're after real adventure instead, the Tenorio whitewater rafting tour runs the same river system at full speed: Class III–IV rapids, about 20 of them, for guests who are fit and comfortable in the water (ages 8 to 80). It's the same corridor at two very different tempos, so many travelers do both — a laid-back float one day and the rapids the next. Want a hand deciding, or a trip that includes both? Just ask.
