Quick answer

The Chocolate & Coffee Farm Experience takes you to a family farm below Tenorio Volcano, north of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, where chocolate and coffee are still made by hand over a wood fire: you crack open cacao pods, roast and grind the beans, taste warm chocolate, then follow coffee from red cherry to cup. About an hour and a half — an add-on to our Rainforest Combo, Miravalles and rafting days.

Chocolate and Coffee the Traditional Way, Tenorio, Costa Rica

On a family farm in the shadow of Tenorio Volcano, chocolate and coffee still begin the way they always have — by hand, over a wood fire, with no factory in sight. You'll crack open ripe cacao pods straight from the tree, roast and grind the beans by hand, and taste chocolate that's still warm. Then it's coffee's turn: from red cherry to roasted cup, and a press of fresh sugarcane to sweeten it all. It's slow, hands-on, and delicious — an easy hour and a half to taste Costa Rica from the source.
